A customer searches, sees three businesses, and starts comparing stars and comments. Reviews influence that decision long before anyone fills out a form. They also have a place in local search, but they are not a shortcut around running a helpful, trustworthy business.
Where reviews fit into local visibility
Google describes local results in terms of relevance, distance, and prominence. Review volume and positive ratings can contribute to prominence. That does not mean the business with the most reviews always wins, or that a particular number of five-star ratings guarantees a top spot.
Ask for honest experiences
Make reviewing easy with a direct link or QR code after a real transaction. Ask customers consistently rather than screening for happy customers first. Do not offer gifts, discounts, or prizes in exchange for Google reviews. Helpful feedback loses its value when you try to engineer the answer.
Use responses to show how you work
Thank people for specific feedback and address concerns professionally. Keep private account details out of public replies. If a recurring complaint appears, fix the underlying issue. A thoughtful response can help future customers understand your approach even when the original review is imperfect.
Your next steps
- Share a direct review link after completed work.
- Use a neutral request for honest feedback.
- Reply without exposing personal information.
- Look for service improvements in repeated comments.
